Chart Topper

factual friday

The classic disco track “I will survive” sung by Gloria Gaynor, was originally released in October 1978 on the B side of a single record. The A side was her song, Substitute. Sales were ok and it peaked at 107 in the US charts.

In December of the same year, after realising that “I will survive” was a better track, the record company switched the A and B side of the record – Just to be clear, this is a vinyl record, with the same songs, one on each side. What they effectively did was switch which side they called A and which they called B (we would have loved to have been in the meeting when that suggestion was made!).

It immediately flew to number one in the charts!
